We’ll always have Paris… Part I

These will be the last two posts about the trip we took to Europe. Our last stop was the amazing and beautiful Paris, and since I have more information I will divide it in two posts. Hope you like them.

I have visited Paris before, but it was the Paris we got to see with our parents, the Paris that just seems “nice,” “beautiful,” “big,” and “worth visiting.” However, this time was different, being in the most romantic and cosmopolitan city in the world with the love of my life, made me see a different Paris. A Paris full of colors, culture, romanticism, joy, art, fashion, extravaganza, and amazing architecture and views even at night. I think this is one  of the few cities in the world that its “midnights” are worth experimenting and specially worth living once in a while. I loved this city, this is what we did and what I recommend visiting if you only have four days.

DAY #1:

– We stayed at the W Hotel near the Opera, which I completely recommend since its location is perfect, we were walking distance from almost everything or just two or three stops away on the subway. After checking in we went to have breakfast to a restaurant called Angelina, a truly Parisian gem. Angelina was founded in 1903 by the confectioner Antoine Rumperlmayer, its elegance, sophistication, and glamour make it a unique place to have breakfast, and lunch among the locals and tourists. Its trademarks to enjoy are: African hot chocolate composed of three different African cocoa, and the Mont Blanc, a light meringue with whipped cream and chestnut paste.

– After breakfast we walked around Place Vendome, Rue de Rivoli, Palais Royal and made it all the way to The Louvre Museum. We got in, there was a lot of people so we just spend an hour or two, visit the Mona Lisa and head outside to take some pictures.

– We crossed the bridge and head to Musée d’Orsay, looked around the galleries and then stop at the cafe for something to drink and rest for a little while. We then crossed the bridge again and walked around the Tuileries and Carrousel Gardens all the way through Place Concorde and the magnificent Champs Élysées. I think this is the best part of Paris, it is full of charm and as my husband said it is the best walk someone can have in its life.

– We shopped a “little” (haha) on Champs Élysées and then head up to the Arc de Triomphe. The stairs were exhausting but the views were wonderful. You can actually see how all the roads lead to this perfect and memorable monument.

– We had dinner at a place called “Café Central,” blocks away from The Eiffel Tower in a very local neighborhood. Here I had the best onion soup and escargots in Paris. I completely recommend it. We were looking for a restaurant called Petite Cler, which my friend suggested as one of the best meals she had in Paris (truly local and delicious), but it was August and most of the restaurants take this time to go on vacation.

DAY#2:

– The second day we had breakfast at Cafe de la Paix, another local and excellent Parisian restaurant just 5 minutes away from the hotel. It is located inside the Intercontinental Hotel with amazing views of the Opera, specially at night.

– After breakfast, we visited the Opera from the inside, it was spectacular. One of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. Then we headed to Sacré Coeur, got inside the Basilica and walked around Montmartre, a local and “hipster” neighborhood, if I can call it that way. The streets around Montmartre are petite and filled with local shops and cafes. We wandered, arrived to Moulin Rouge, and took the subway to Notre Dame.

– We visited the Cathedral of Notre Dame, put our padlock on the bride and toss the key into the Seine River. A romantic, cheesy, but completely worth having experience, these are the things we do for love when we are in Paris, these are the things that Paris expects us to do and enjoy. After tossing our key we headed to St Germain, which I believe is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Paris, lots of local restaurants, cafes, and creperies, and with a “youthful” energy. We had early diner at a restaurant called Chez Clement, known for its entrecôte. And then we had excellent Nutella crepes at Creperie St Germain. 

More places I recommend to go in St Germain are: Avant Comptoir, and a brasserie called St. Severin with a gorgeous view of Notre Dame.

– After dinner we went to the Eiffel Tower Illuminations, in which the Eiffel Tower is adorned with “sparkles” for 10 minutes every hour upon nightfall. We had a small picnic with a bottle of white wine, extremely romantic. I recommend bringing the bottle of wine in advance from a local shop because there are people who sell the wine once you arrive, but the price is very expensive compared to what you can bring.

What are you favorite spots in Paris?

Estos serán los últimos dos posts del viaje que hicimos a Europa. Nuestra última parada fue París, y como tengo mucha información de los lugares que visitamos, voy a dividir este post en dos partes. Espero les gusten…

Ya antes había ido a París, pero era ese París que visitas con tus papás, un París que parece agradable, bonito, grande, y que vale la pena conocer. Pero, esta vez fue muy diferente, estar en la ciudad más romántica y cosmopolita del mundo, me hizo apreciar a París de una manera distinta, verlo con ojos diferentes. Un París lleno de colores, cultura, romanticismo, felicidad, arte, moda, extravaganza y una arquitectura espectacular, incluso la noche se vuelve aún más hermosa en París. Creo que es una de las ciudad en las que a la luz de la luna todo se vuelve más maravilloso. Me encantó volver a París, especialmente con el amor de mi vida. Aquí les muestro lo que hicimos y lo que les recomiendo hacer en 4 días…

DÍA #1:

– Nos quedamos en el Hotel W de la Ópera, super cerca de casi todas las zonas de París. Casi siempre caminábamos o tomábamos el metro, lo recomiendo muchísimo porque está muy bien ubicado. Después de hacer el check in, fuimos a desayunar a un restaurante que se llama Angelina, una joya totalmente Parisina. Angelina fue fundado en 1903 por el Chef repostero Antoine Rumperlmayer, su elegancia, sofisticación y glamour lo hacen un lugar único entre los locales y turistas para desayunar o comer. Especialmente para probar las especialidades de la casa: El Chocolate caliente Africano, compuesto de tres diferentes tipos de cacao africanos y el postre Mont Blanc, un merengue con crema batida y pasta de avellana.

– Después de desayunar caminamos por la Plaza Vendome, Rue de Rivoli, Palais Royal, llegando hasta el Museo de Louvre. Entramos un rato al museo, pasamos a ver la famosa Mona Lisa y algunas galerías porque estaba muy lleno y era casi imposible visitar todo el museo.

– Salimos de Louvre, cruzamos uno de los puentes del río Senna y nos fuimos al Museo de Orsay, vimos algunas de las galerías y nos sentamos en el café para tomar algo y descansar. La vista de este lugar es impresionante, sobretodo el reloj. Después del museo, volvimos a cruzar el puente y caminamos por el Jardín de las Tulerías y el Carrusel, pasamos por la Plaza de la Concordia y llegamos hasta Champs Elysees. Creo que es uno de los mejores recorridos que alguien puede hacer en su vida, es simplemente hermoso y lleno de vida, un sentimiento que sólo Paris puede expresar a través de sus jardines, sus calles y sus monumentos.

– Estuvimos de compras un rato por Champs Elysees y después nos subimos a la parte más alta del Arco del Triunfo. Las escaleras estuvieron matadoras pero las vistas muy impresionantes. Realmente se puede ver como todos los caminos se dirigen hacia este memorable monumento. 

– Cenamos en un lugar que se llama Café Central, a unas cuadras de la Torre Eiffel en una zona muy local. De todos los lugares que comimos en París, aquí fue donde probé la mejor sopa de cebolla y los mejores escargots. Llegamos a este lugar porque estábamos buscando un restaurante que nos recomendó una amiga que se llama Petite Cler, estaba cerrado por que en Agosto la mayoría de los restaurantes descansan y la gente aprovecha para irse de vacaciones, entonces caminamos por la zona y decidimos sentarnos en Cafe Central. Les recomiendo los dos muchísimo. 

DÍA #2:

– El segundo día desayunamos en Café de la Paz, un excelente restaurante Parisino sólo a 5 minutos del hotel. Está ubicado adentro del Hotel Intercontinental, la comida es muy rica y además tiene una vista espectacular de la Ópera, especialmente en la noche. 

– Después de desayunar visitamos la Ópera, uno de los edificios más bonitos y más elegantes que he visto en mi vida. De ahí nos fuimos al Sagrado Corazón, visitamos la Basílica y caminamos alrededor de la zona de Montmartre, me enamoré de sus callecitas y de todo lo que encontramos por ahí. Caminamos toda la zona y llegamos a Moulin Rouge, dónde tomamos el metro hacia Notre Dame. 

– Visitamos la Catedral de Notre Dame, pusimos nuestro candado en el puente y como buenos cursis que somos, aventamos la llave al río. Aunque parezca cursi, creo que es una de las cosas que París te hace hacer y sentir, lo romántico vence a lo cursi. Después de tirar nuestra llave, nos fuimos a la zona de St Germain, creo que es una de las zonas más bonitas de París, totalmente local, con muchas tiendas, restaurantes, cafés y “creperías.” Es un zona con mucha energía juvenil y mucho ambiente. Cenamos temprano en un restaurante que se llama Chez Clement, conocido por su entrecote. Y nos comimos una crepa de nutella en la Crepería de St. Germain. 

Más lugares que les recomiendo visitar en esta zona son: Avant Comptoir y una brasserie que se llama St. Severin, con una vista increíble de Notre Dame. 

– Después de la cena fuimos a ver el “show de luces” de la Torre Eiffel. Todos los días cuando oscurece, la Torre Eiffel se prende de “alegría,” unas luces doradas invaden toda su estructura por 10 minutos cada hora. Nos sentamos, tomamos vino y disfrutamos del romanticismo Parisino. Les recomiendo que compren la botella de vino antes de que lleguen, ahí mismo hay gente vendiendo pero les cobran mucho más de lo que pueden pagar en una tienda.
